Fort Hamilton High School’s annual talent show, which took place on Friday, January 16th, was a success, showcasing the incredible talent in the school community.
The talent show coordinator, Mr. Alvear, organized the show again after 14 years. “I last ran the talent show 14 years ago, so I had forgotten how much fun it is to put together a show of this size,” he said. “I am grateful for their sacrifice, dedication, and willingness to be coached.”
The students invested considerable effort to create a successful show, but they weren’t alone. The talent show committee, including teachers Mr. Alvear, Ms. O’Leary, Ms. Cafaro, Ms. Estrada, Ms. Martinez, Ms. Lessard, Mx. Shields, the Stage Crew and Ms. Russo, also worked to make the show possible.
“Without them, this wonderful night would not have happened,” Mr. Alvear said.
One performer, Kerrigan Fitzpatrick, a senior at Fort Hamilton, was proud of her performance and grateful to share the stage with her good friend.
“My experience in the talent show was truly so good,” she told The Pilot. “I got to do a fun performance with my friend Anthony, and we had so much fun.” Fitzpatrick was not only excited about her own performance but was also impressed by the performances of other students. “Watching everyone act and perform was amazing, and the talent show shows us how many people are talented in different ways.”
Another senior, Joanna Ubilla, who is the captain of the Flag Team, led a fantastic performance with her teammates. The performance had multiple acts, each governed by a movie theme.
“I wanted to include some type of dancing or movement because I think our team has a lot of personality beyond just flagging,” Ubilla said. She and her co-captain drew inspiration from last year for their acts.
“[For] Act 2, [the movie] Trolls was our inspiration,” she added. “Last year, we had a fun theme for the second act, [the movie] Minions and spray painted our hair to become trolls.” The team likes to finish their performance with a fun act, often based on movies, like this year and the last.
Reflecting on the event, Mr. Alvear said that this talent show was uniquely impressive. “This was truly one of the best shows I can remember,” he said. “I’m just glad our kids will have another amazing experience to cherish from their high school days.”
