Nothing could have prepared us for high school. The changes we experienced were unexpected as we transitioned from middle school into our teenage years. There was a collective discovery of who we were becoming and who we were meant to be. Between our classes and extracurricular activities, we had experiences that will continue to impact us for the rest of our lives. The memories we made in these halls over the past four years have been nothing short of extraordinary. Through tricky exams and difficult projects, as well as school-wide events and loud lunch periods, the challenges we have faced have only made the fun we have had more rewarding. Ultimately, it is the challenges we take on that will form the foundation of our future.
With new schedules, new dynamics, and new environments in high school, we were all little fish in a big pond searching for our path. Over these four years, we have banded together as a school, becoming a group of future leaders that will use the skills that we’ve gained to overcome obstacles and achieve our goals. We owe our thanks to the teachers, faculty, and staff who guided us with support, insight, and education along the way.
Though one of the largest high schools in the area, Fort Hamilton has a tight-knit community that has shaped the high school experience in memorable ways. Participating in events such as fire drills that poured into the field, intense basketball games in the gym, and school spirit days as silly as 67 Day were a cornerstone of our experience. The senior trip to the American Dream Mall and Hersheypark were unforgettable experiences that brought us closer together. Despite crowded hallways, busy classrooms, and the new phone ban, we have still found ways to show up for one another through it all.
The most important part of graduation is not what was lost, but what is yet to come. There is an overt focus on the basis of graduation being an ending, as most people experience it in relation to the end of an era, with it representing a conclusion to those years. While it does signify a recognition of the end, what a graduation really indicates are the opportunities yet to come, as new doors are opened, providing avenues to be explored. Our shared experiences as Tigers has empowered us to pursue our post-graduate plans not in despair for what we’ve lost, but in hope for all that is yet to come.
Congratulations to the Class of 2026 on the achievements they’ve accomplished and the achievements that await them next!
