This year, Fort Hamilton’s chapter of the National Honor Society held its annual toy drive to help children in need this winter season. Through their collection of donated toys and warm winter clothing, NHS worked together to ensure the children of Bay Ridge would be filled with the holiday spirit, regardless of their financial standing.
This year, NHS was able to donate over 100 different items to children in need. This included an array of toys ranging from Barbie dolls to fun rockets and plushies. These donations were for children aged 3 to 11, representing a range of toys suitable for both boys and girls. Afterward, the society led a School Giftwrapping Ceremony, where all members of the NHS worked tirelessly to wrap all the different presents in time for the winter holidays. Over fifty students participated in this event, wrapping toys in all the different decorative gift wraps and ribbons.
In addition to the toy drive, the school has also opened up its annual Winter Coat Donation box in the front lobby of the school. As the harsh New York winter arrives this year, many unfortunate children and adults of our community are not able to purchase such luxuries for themselves. By donating lightly worn to unused jackets and sweaters, the Fort Hamilton community is able to extend the warmth of the family to others – both figuratively and literally.
As always, both charitable events have been outstanding successes this year, thanks to our NHS and student body, proving yet again that a little generosity can truly go a long way.
