Fort Hamilton Hosts Annual Club Fair
September 14, 2023
Fort Hamilton High School held its annual club fair on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in the Girls’ Gym. Leadership students and club leaders worked together to fill the gym with poster boards and presentations representing their clubs.
Over forty clubs participated in the fair, hoping to promote their purposes and increase membership, giving underclassmen the ability to find something that interests them from the ever-increasing club list and feel a part of the Fort community.
Clubs of all sizes took part in the fair — some larger and more established, like the Key Club and American Red Cross, and other smaller newcomers made a splash, like the Archery Club. The fair was an opportunity for not only students to find clubs, but also for upcoming clubs to gain recognition and membership.
“The club fair was really an opportunity to help get new clubs off the ground,” said Student Activities Coordinator Mr. Joseph Alvear.
Many clubs lose traction nearing the middle and end of the school year due to lack of membership, and hosting the club fair annually is a way to revive these struggling clubs, as well as foster younger clubs.
While the club fair may aim to help promote clubs, it simultaneously works to create a stronger Fort Hamilton community. Leaders and organizers aim to reach out to the Fort Hamilton students, especially the freshmen and sophomores who may not know of everything there is to join here at Fort.
“We want to let them know that our school has so much to offer,”said Senior Council Member Michael Lin.
All the announcements and posters around the school can get overwhelming for newer students, and the fair helps to create a visual representation of all that there is to join at Fort Hamilton.
“I always knew that Fort had a lot of clubs,” said Abigail Hom, a sophomore who attended the fair. “But I didn’t really know until I saw it.”
