On December 3, 2022, Fort Hamilton High School hosted its first Club Winter Bazaar, providing clubs at Fort Hamilton with a chance to raise funds and develop connections with each other outside of class.
Club members and students enjoyed a Saturday afternoon together in the girls’ gym. Students advertised their clubs to others and sold various items, such as their own arts and crafts, club apparel, and baked goods. There were a variety of clubs present, like the Chemistry Club, Community is Key Club, JROTC Robotics, Cheerleaders, and many more.
Joseph Alvear, Fort Hamilton’s new activities director, coordinated the Winter Bazaar so that clubs could have a chance to fundraise and overcome the damage done by citywide budget cuts, which made it unsustainable to fund over thirty clubs for the 2022-2023 academic year. This event was the best way for clubs to gain recognition and foot traffic, while also maintaining a festive environment during the holiday season.
“I could not be happier with the results and believe it will become a Fort tradition,” Alvear said.
The event included many other highlights. For example, the Chemistry Club run by Ms. Ching made fake snow and students were able to make snow angels. One child even made a snowman with the help of Ms. Ching. There was music by Spanish teacher Crescendo Smalls, who sang “O Come All Ye Faithful” and the a cappella Club. The Baseball Club also held a push-up competition to raise awareness for their club.
The Club Winter Bazaar was a huge success, and the Fort Hamilton community hopes to continue it as a new tradition every year.
