The Symphonic Orchestra Winter Concert, conducted by Mr. Barry Stern was eagerly awaited on December 11th, particularly by the performing artists. There was a lot of tension and worries in the moments leading up to the event, but all of that dissipated as the concert eventually started and music filled the whole auditorium.
The Symphony Orchestra started with the “Stars Spangled Banner” by John Strafford Smith, arranged by Sandra Dachow. Then, they played “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein, arranged by John Moss, “The Hallelujah Chorus” by George Frederick Handel, arranged by Robert S. Frost, “Rumanian Folk Dance” by Bela Bartok arranged by Arthur Willner (all seven movements). For their final performance, the orchestra played “Thriller” by Michael Jackson, directed by Soon Hee Newbold.
Performers
“This winter concert was my first high school performance, which led to excitement and nervousness,” said Zoe Chen, a violinist in symphonic orchestra. “I was feeling apprehensive, due to the fear of messing up. Even with music classes every 6th period, I still felt the need to practice at home. With hours of practice and dedication, it was finally the day of the performance. Moments before stepping on stage, I could feel my heart racing, double-checking my instrument and music sheets, making sure everything was in place”.
After The Performance
“I loved the ambiance of the concert, going alone I expected a peaceful evening and the concert definitely delivered,” said Brian Li. “It was also fantastic seeing my friends and classmates in the concert! Always a good laugh seeing them outside of class. The music itself was fantastic, especially the band and chorus. I’d 1000% come back next year to see the concert, also there were hotdogs.”
