On Wednesday, April 30th, Fort Hamilton’s National Honor Society held its annual Bowling Night at Melody Lanes. Every year, students and teachers gather to play rounds of bowling, creating lasting memories for seniors and underclassmen.
The proceeds from this event go to the Joseph Graffagnino Scholarship. This scholarship is given in memory of Fort Hamilton alumnus Joseph Graffagnino, a firefighter who perished while on duty. A small way to keep Graffagnino’s memory alive, the scholarship is awarded to a student who perseveres in the face of hardship.
“Bowling was an amazing experience this year where we were able to raise a lot of money for the scholarship,” said NHS Executive Board President, Leo Zhong.

The event also held sentimental value, as Zhong and his fellow e-board members near the end of their high school careers.
“I played last year and had an amazing time and so this year, being on the executive board, made it more special and more fun,” he said.
Vernon Demir, the recording secretary of NHS, also noted that this was both a fun and sentimental event, where students and teachers were able to bond during the final months of the school year.
“I went to Bowling Night last year, as well, but it definitely felt more special this time,” he said. “Plus the fact that so many teachers were there to show their support as well as bowl, including Mr. Hajjar on our team, made it even more enjoyable.”
NHS Bowling Night is one of many events that NHS provides for members. From weekly soup kitchens to the annual Faculty vs. Student Volleyball Tournament, NHS consistently plays a big role in bringing together different members of the Fort Hamilton High School community.
