Valentine’s Day celebrates all kinds and all expressions of love. In 1992, radio talkshow host and author Gary Chapman wrote a book titled The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate, in which he argued that there are five ways people communicate love for one another. These five love languages, according to Chapman, are words of affirmation, quality time, gift giving, acts of service, and physical touch. Although Chapman’s book spoke primarily about romantic love, the five love languages apply to platonic love, as well.
So how do our Fort Hamilton Tigers show their love? This is the question that Pilot staff reporter Kaelyn Roundtree asked 91 random Fort Hamilton students.
“Words of affirmation help let me know where we are in terms of a relationship. It’s also nice to actually hear someone say something especially when it’s towards you in a loving and caring way,” said Alexander Delgado.
Junior Arya Liu, however, said that acts of service are often more gratifying than words.
