Fort Hamilton’s Annual Winter Concert was held on the nights of December 15 and 16 and showcased the incredible talents of many musical performance groups, including, but not limited to, orchestra strings, marching band, symphonic band, and choral groups.
Upon entering the building, concertgoers were greeted by art pieces—carefully created by students—and by the Leadership team. Leadership students helped assist those to find their seats, handed out programs for the night, and established a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere for the guests.
Both concert nights were hosted by Assistant Principal of Arts and Business, Mr. Oberle, and started off with the presentation of the colors by Fort Hamilton’s JROTC Color Guard and a moving performance of the “Star Spangled Banner,” which left those watching with an expectation of what the night would be like.
Performing students stated how stressed and nervous they felt at first, but how fun it was when they actually performed. Mr. Lanaghan’s Mixed Chorus sang “Let It Snow ” by Dean Martin, which got everyone in the winter spirit. Toward the end of the evening of December 16, the Symphonic Band performed “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Sleigh Ride,” and “Christmas Pop Sing-Along,” getting everyone riled up and excited and sending audience members home in a festive spirit. The Symphonic Band also performed “Saturday Night Fever,” which according to freshman and member of the Symphonic band on percussion, Jaiden Henry, was the most fun song to perform.

Ms. Martinez’s Treble Chorus performed “Homeward Bound” in dedication to Jayden Qayyum. Allowing everyone to come together and honor his memory through a beautiful song made the night truly special.
“It felt more emotional than I expected because of the meaning of the song,” remarked Joanna Ubilla, a freshman in treble choir.
All those who performed, from the color guard to the marching band, performed with joy, pride, and passion. They made these nights fun for not only those watching but also for those who worked hard to make it possible. The winter concert succeeded in bringing everyone together as a community.
