The stage lit up on a Friday night, as students set up for one of Fort Hamilton’s most anticipated shows. Students prepared to showcase their skills on February 7th, 2025 at Fort’s annual Talent Show. From singing and dancing, to performing magic tricks, and even acrobatics, students wowed the audience with incredible acts representative of all the talent within the school’s walls.
The event, put together by Coach Lynn Beruldsen, commenced with a vibrant performance by Fort’s Flag Team who hosted the show. Masters of Ceremony, Koey Mei, Briana Nieves, and Christian Williams introduced each successive act as the crowd cheered on for the singers, dancers, bands, and performers participating in the show. To many performers, it was an opportunity to express their interests and skills to the school community.
“It allows the students to actually demonstrate what they’re capable of, and I think that’s a great way to show more diversity in the school, seeing other people that don’t typically do those types of things,” said Nieves.
As an incentive for coming to the show, many local businesses donated prizes for a raffle that took place during intermission.
“My favorite part was definitely the raffles,” said co-captain of the cheer team Yuki Wu. “It was great that we were able to promote local businesses at the show.”
All proceeds from the show were divided amongst four scholarships: the Kristi Beth Kvalheim Memorial Scholarship, the Anthony Vigliotti Memorial Scholarship, the Jaden Quayyum Memorial Scholarship, and the Robert Lanaghan Memorial Scholarship.
These scholarships are awarded to students who display the same talents that the namesakes of the awards possessed at their time at Fort Hamilton High School. The event was not only meant to celebrate student talent, but to support these talented students in their future endeavors.
“It’s important to have a Talent Show because it encourages Fort students to reach out and be involved in their community and also indulge in the things that they love and showcase their talents,” said senior Noelani Alvarez, who played the guitar alongside singer Chyna Henderson. “It shows there is a point to doing what you love because you get to share it with other people. The act of sharing harbors a sense of community, so being able to display that love is very important.”
