One of the clubs shining this year at many Fort Hamilton events is Jewelry Club. One may have seen them with an array of bracelets, necklaces, phone charms, and even more for sale at events such the Club Bazaar or in collaboration with Leadership.
Jewelry Club initially started out as a way to bring Co-Presidents Kiran Ali and Kristiana Lee’s love for jewelry to the Fort Hamilton community. After seeing a Fort Hamilton alumna in Fashion Club succeed in selling her own jewelry, Lee was inspired to start making jewelry as a hobby of her own.
“I always felt interested by jewelry and in freshman year, I felt nothing, no clubs or after school things appealed to me,” Ali said. “So [Kristiana and I] decided to take matters into our own hands and create something that we love. And we just really wanted to share with our friends and our community at school.”
As they brought their passion to the club scene at Fort Hamilton, Ali and Lee did not expect that so many students shared the same passion as them.
“We actually had no idea how popular it would become,” Ali said. “I remember our very first meeting last year, we had so many people, it was really exciting but also overwhelming.”
A typical meeting involves the members creating the bracelets, earrings, phone charms, and other accessories that Jewelry Club sells at different events throughout the year.
“The Club Bazaar was a huge success for our club, but it was a little bit hard because we had to spend funds in order to get more funds,” Ali said. “It’s been hard getting school funding, especially this year. We weren’t able to get all the fundings that we requested, so we had to take matters into our own hands, but it was really successful.”
The next school event at which the Jewelry Club will be selling its jewelry is the spring musical, Mean Girls.
“We’re going to be making jewelry based off the musical like bracelets, I believe phone charms and earrings,” Lee said. “And we’ll probably be selling during the month of May and also during show nights.”
If you’re interested in joining Jewelry Club, they meet every Friday during 10th period in room 126 and you can find more information on their Google Classroom with the code osxto64.
